Getting Older

Aging's effects on our bodies and minds is well known
and unavoidable

We become a greater risk for developing various health issues like osteoarthritis, high blood pressure and postural instability resulting in falls as we pass through our lives. Massage therapy is a holistic approach to help manage the symptoms of age-related complications and chronic ailments and improves quality of life greatly for individuals in this population. Geriatric massage can help maintain and improve overall health, regain certain physical functions that have been reduced or lost due to aging, relieve anxiety and depression, improve sleep quality and provide much needed comfort to the touch-deprived elderly.

Geriatric massage

A form of massage that is designed to meet the specific needs of the elderly population. It involves the therapist using their hands to manipulate the soft tissues of the body to improve blood circulation, relax the nervous system and increase range of motion. A massage session designed for this population will include similar basic massage movements and techniques as other modalities and active or passive movement of the joints.

While studying at Cortiva Massage School, Nic volunteered at the Sno-Vally Senior Center and has been working with the older generations ever since. She was certified by the Day-Break Geriatric Massage Institute in 2015. As with all massage treatments, the individual's needs and goals will be catered for each session.
